What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s first national Scheme for people under 65 with disability. It provides funding and information/connections to help people obtain care and supports they need to live and enjoy their lives. NDIS participants are able to choose their service providers, including an occupational therapist.

Me and My OT provides experienced, high quality, caring occupational therapy support or strategies to help NDIS participants reach their goals and maximize their safety and independence. These OT supports are funded under “Improved Daily Living” in a participant’s plan.

OT also support clients in the NDIS to advocate for funding and resources such as housing or equipment to live with their disability as independently and safely as possible. This is done through the writing of reports.

what if i disagree with a ndis decision?

If you are not happy with a decision the NDIS have made, such as a decision to approve your plan, NDIS may be able to review that decision.

This is called an internal review of a decision.

In an internal review of a decision, the NDIS will check if they made the right decision under the law by looking at the facts and circumstances at the time of the internal review. If the NDIS needs more information to make their decision, they will contact you..

If your situation and support needs have changed since the last NDIS decision, you can also ask NDIS to change your plan.

There are options available to you if you don’t agree with a decision the NDIS have made.

  • You can ask NDIS to explain our decision. We can also give you written reasons for our decision. Contact the NDIA for more information about this option.

  • If the decision is about your approved plan, you can talk to your Local Area Coordinator or Support Coordinator for help with other ways to use your plan to access supports.

  • If you are not a participant, you can seek help from a Local Area Coordinator to find supports available for you. To access the NDIS, you can submit a new access request. Visit the access request and support for people who are not eligible pages on the NDIS website for more information.

  • We may identify your supports are best delivered by other service systems. Visit mainstream and community supports for more information.
