Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA)
A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a process that entails determining a participant’s current functioning and support needs through chatting with the participant and administering a number of paper assessments.
This information is then used to make recommendations which are submitted to NDIS. The NDIS from here makes decisions on the participants’ funding and support based on these recommendations.
FCA reports are a focus area for Siobhan at Me and My OT. Coupled with exceptional writing skills, Siobhan has a great amount of experience in identifying the person’s gaps in function and unique needs to their situation. This results in a high-quality FCA report and greatest chance of recommendations being approved by the NDIS.
Me and My OT also assist participants with progress reports which is a summary document required for a plan review.
housing reports SDA/SIL/ILO
A housing assessment is a collaborative process between OT and the participant and involves collection of information about how the person is functioning within their current main home environment. Following discovery of needs, OT then develops a report with recommendations which is submitted to NDIS.
There are many different housing pathways such as Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Individualised Living Options (ILO) and Siobhan can help you decide which one may be best for your situation and needs.
Siobhan from Me and My OT supports participant’s to have the best chance possible of successfully obtaining housing through the NDIS. This is done through exceptional writing skill, acute ability to identify the person’s level of functioning and support needs, as well as an acute awareness of housing options available and request protocols.
psychosocial
Siobhan at Me and My OT provides psychosocial and mental health services which aim to support participants to live meaningfully and at peace despite strong emotions and behaviours disrupting their functioning.
These disruptive emotions may be either a direct symptom of the main disability or be because of the loss of independence or confidence in their life.
Psychosocial support is usually provided through a process of regular sessions with the OT, which includes delivery of tailored and evidence-based strategies.
daily living skills
OT’s are brilliantly placed to support improved daily living skills through their very practical and real-world application of ideas and clever use of strategies. This is extremely valuable seeing as every person is so unique in what makes up their daily living picture.
Siobhan at Me and My OT will support participants to develop skills in areas of employment, domestic, and self-care as well as social and community.

What makes Occupational therapy so Special?
Occupational therapists are extremely valued by the NDIS and are utilised as a key disability management strategy to support individuals with life-restricting impairments to integrate into their community with greater independence, function, and quality of life.
This is done through a range of strategies, for example, advocating for support needs, capacity/skill building therapy, equipment prescription, and mental health support.
Particularly, occupational therapists are highly solution-focused and are vital to the NDIS space by ensuring people can live with greater quality of life, without poor mental health as a barrier. With extensive, real-world skills and knowledge that are practical and relevant, OT’s are beautifully placed to successfully guide implementation and sustainable utilisation of strategies with an improved outcome.
The NDIS scheme also enlists the support of occupational therapists to increase function and safety in the participant’s home and main living environments through providing context-based capacity-building therapy or supporting the participant to obtain more funding for increased person-to-person supports.
With this in mind, occupational therapists are essential in reducing the need for people to enter care facilities, as well as be as reliant on support from loved ones which can lift a huge weight off family-based caregivers.
Occupational therapists support participants to live life on their terms and get back to doing the things they have to, need to, and want to do each day!
